How many people out there play World of Warcraft?

my brother does and he has a friend who plays and his wife plays as well. Sometimes all three of them would be on the game at the same time.

I've never played it. It sounds too engrossing and I just don't have the time.

apparently over 9 million so far...I have to admit I do dabble - I have recently moved to another country and it is the only way I keep in contact with my old friends back in NZ. It is quite a fun game though - with lots of different types of people on it, and very varied. If you are into serious fantasy games or FPS's then it probably isn't you.

DON'T START. Trust me. It's fun...really fun...most fun game I've ever played...but you get lost in it. It's so unbelievably addictive and you lose your social life if you want to be any good. You will end up playing 8-10 hours at a time. I was addicted for about 2 years and was one of the best players on my server. Yeah, I thought "wtf I'll never get addicted to a game." But I did. So I finally did what I had to do and I sold my account to a Chinese gold farmer (not kidding either). And I'm so glad I got out of it. It's really not a healthy game to play, take my advice.

I used to play it but... my account got deleted and hacked from so I don't bother going back at all.

I played on and off since beta. I quit for the third, and probably final, time earlier this year. Personally, I'm of the mind you get what you pay for. The only free MMO worth playing (for my tastes) is Anarchy Online and that wasn't free back when I played. I guess I've been playing long enough that I have certain expectations, and games like Runescape and Maple Story just don't cut it.

It's all about personal preference really. That and when your friends play, it can be a fun way to do something with them. I will never forget our drunken UBRS raid....
