Were the warrior class made to tank alone?Since an arms warrior can neither DPS or tank?

An Arms Warrior can tank, just not as well as a Protection WarriorTanking is a primary focus of a Warrior, but they can do a decent amount of damage, if properly equipped.

im one of the lead DPS on my warrior when doing gruul's lair...im arms u can look me up on armory, warriors are supposed to be tanks but can put out a huge ammount of dps...look up rampagingcow from the server maelstrom on armory

Most classes are designed to be able to fulfill Multiple roles. A warrior Can Fulfill The Tank role very well (And is the standard by which all tanking is measured) but a Well-specced and Geared Arms/Fury warrior can Dish out a Significant amount of DPS. Some raid leaders may like to use DPS warriors for their additional Staying power.The same Can be said of a Shaman, for example. A popular opinion back in the day is that Shaman in the End-game were only useful as restoration-specced Off-healers. But with recent balance changes, A well-played Enhancement Shaman can surpass Rogues in Melee DPS, and Elemental Shammies can match pace with mages in Spell DPS.The only exceptions I can think of are A) Rogues. They do their best as Melee DPS. They may be able to perform Unorthodox tanking, but It's really difficult.B) Mages/Warlocks. With Little-to-no healing or Active support abilities, they do their best as Mob-Killers.Now, do not take this as a excuse not to be prepared to tank. Just as Even a Full-Shadow priest should know and be prepated to heal if the need arises. My personal opinion is that Every Warrior should Carry a Shield, so they can Tank if they are called to, but Voice your Desire to be a damage-Dealer. Best of Luck and Loot!
