How much income can a new game programmer/ 3D modeler expect to earn programming video games for PC/ PS2/PS3/ Xbox 360, etc?

it really depends on your refrences and on you skills
i used to make some 2D sprites for games i used to get couple hundreds for the entire job
sometimes a thousand if it was big project

Well that's not bad pay for making sprites for 2D games though man. And yea I would guess the pay rate depends on the company your working for.

I would have thought they generally wouldn't be paid as much as other software developers, and games developers tend to do it more for the love of games than for the money

If you are good at what you do, you van expect to at least make around $100,000 a year.

Yeh thats preciselly it. It all depends on who you work for and how good you are at it. For example one of Nintendo head game makers would make alot more than someone who make a rubbish 2D flash game.

It's a bit off-topic, but I've heard that some game companies have been hiring composers and full orchestras, which is great for the music business.

I've also heard that there's sometimes significant work for actors, recording voice and video.

If you have enough skills, you'll earn bigger monthly wages. My cousin is a video game tester. He earned $150,000 a year excluding the commision and bonus.
