Final Fantasy XI's latest update goes live, brings level syncing to game

Denizens of Vana'diel will be glad to know that the latest update for Final Fantasy XI (PC, Xbox 360, PS2) is now up and running, and should provide you with new content and opportunities for fun!

While the full details are rather long, there's one notable addition that should make playing with your friends more challenging. The level-syncing feature is now up, and it allows higher-leveled players to power down their character and gear to a level appropriate to that of their lower-leveled friend. They can then undertake quests at that level and, in turn, earn experience and reap the benefits of friendship!

Sounds interesting, although, I only ever played the game for 5 minutes and turned it off because I found it so boring.

The update, however, does sound unique. I've never heard of anything like that in an MMORPG.

My friend that I'll be playing with said that the new level sync system is absolutely fantastic and that the following link is basically how [almost] everyone feels about the implementation of the system. I will be playing FFXI again after avoiding the game for over a year. I hope all goes well.

oh wow this game looks fun, im thinking about getting it. It looks sooo fun. Kinda like a advanced version of a game called fiesta lol.

It's not fun. Seriously. Unless, you enjoy waiting 6~10 or more hours a day waiting for someone to invite you to their party. Then okay, have fun with that.

Actually, I'm sure, I hope that that has changed since the implimentation of the level sync system.

I guess, since I'm playing again I might as well comment on the Level Sync system.

It's wonderful. And with the latest improvements and upcoming ones, it's even better. No longer do you need to buy low level equipment for level sync and even BCNM caps an' such, as it automatically modifies the stats. Hell, you could even use a level 75 weapon, sync to 10, and still do beautiful damage.

Though, I have to sadly admit that, if I were syncing to 30 using a level level 46 weapon with +5 Accuracy and +5 Attack, those bonuses would not be available at 30.

On another note, the implimentation of Fields of Valor has brought some cheer to my heart. Now, users can choose to solo or even party for an extra bit of experience by accepting a page from a Field Manual located in several original Final Fantasy XI zones. Besides the experience and Gil rewards, users can also use the tabs they've collected from completing the pages and spend them on a free nation teleport, buffs such as Regen, Refresh and Reraise, and can even purchase food with beneficial stats if you're too cheap to buy normal food.
