Asheron's Call vs?

Did anyone else play Asheron's call yesteryear and found anything that filled the void or bridged the gap to the what should be perceived as the next generation of fun?Older I am, yet I expect fresh content. DAoC, WoW, LoTR - etc all seem exactly the same. move 10 feet, kill this monster, move another 10 feet when you level up to kill the same monster.Those that haven't played AC don't understand the dynamics vs other games that are basically Everquest spin offs.Just wondering...

Older I am as well, and I agree with you on many points. I played and completely found AC to be much more diverse and with an actual character customization that made sense. A far step from 'you are this, so now you can learn this skill and this skill only'. If only AC had better graphics it would've become far more mainstream. I regret to say that I have not tried AC2, but I gave it a very long look over. Very long indeed.DAoC was ok, and filled a small void, but it dwindled down to the same old grind, like WoW.I've actually been watching how Tabula Rasa is coming along. I figured it would be the next game that is that much of a step away from the norm. You may want to check it out.http://www.playtr.com/index.htmlI mean, it's being handled by Richard Garriott. (Lord British) so I'm hopeful it will be very unique.

I read that Asheron's Call is listed as "Platinum" for Wine...so tried it but couln't get past the installer b/c it says it needs IE6 or above to install...I tried agent switcher, no luck. Anyone know how I can "trick" it into thinking it's using IE? How are they listing it as Platinum?
