No the out running a mob does not work, the only way to really ditch a mob is if your a rogue (sprint/vanish) or a mage (Frost Nova) As for tips for your leveling guide, just remember its all questing, instances only help you get reputation and gear. Those shouldnt be priorities of players untill your level 70, then gear is your main focus at that point, reputation is also important because of the need for Heroic Instances in High Ranking guilds who focus on end game. Heroics also give badges which are used to buy VERY good gear from the center of shattrath, the only gear that beats this is some kara and End Game raid gear, tier 4-6
